One day, several years ago, the kids and I were outside messing with some clay. We had not been living in this house very long. Earlier that same day Christina had "fixed" my hair into one of her unique styles (another example is pictured). I had barrettes all over my head. I had clay all over my hands. This was not the ideal moment for the neighbor to stop by and welcome us to the neighborhood. I can imagine her looking out the window and saying to herself, "Oh the new neighbor is out. I'll just walk over and introduce myself." As she walked up to the porch and I saw her coming out of the corner of my eye, I stood up to face her. She hesitated a moment and then asked, "Are you the mother?"
Every year at Mother's Day, as my children shower me with hugs and kisses, I look around at them and think to myself, "Are you the mother?" I am. I really am. I am so very blessed.
Happy Mother's Day to all of you (especially to my own Mom).
